This office - designed for the transformation and strategy firm Prophet Consulting - was heavily influenced by the building it occupies, 881 Broadway, which is a cast-iron and wood structure dating back to 1866. The elegant cast-iron columns were left exposed throughout the space, adding an old New York patina which juxtaposes nicely with the modern amenities and materials used in the architecture of the new office. No assigned desks were included in the design: instead, Prophet elected to dedicate the vast majority of the space to collaboration areas of many kinds. Some hoteling stations are included, but the goal of this workspace is to encourage face-to-face brainstorming sessions and allow for workshopping ideas with clients. While amenities like phone booths are provided throughout the space, employees are encouraged to work from home on days they need unbroken heads-down concentration time, while the office is meant to be an immersive space dedicated to fomenting ideas and supporting team effort.

A large, sunny café featuring dramatic skylights occupies nearly a third of the floor plate, offering a variety of settings for employees and clients to gather or work independently in a lively, bright setting. A reclaimed elm slab table measuring nearly 40 feet occupies one corner, with the surrounding arched windows affording views down Broadway to Union Square. Cozy booths offer semi-seclusion for meetings and are among the most desired seats in the office. The café is fully equipped for all-hands meetings and presentations in addition to being ideal for hosting social events and cocktail hours.

The balance of the workspace is devoted primarily to meeting rooms as well as generous breakout spaces, centered on yet more skylights, that enable groups to pin-up ideas and brainstorm. The positioning of these breakout zones is prominent and encourages visibility of work underway, allowing for the cross-pollination of ideas and creativity.
